The Mandrake Memorial – The Mandrake Memorial (1968)

The Mandrake Memorial is the 1968 self-titled debut album by the Philadelphia-based psychedelic rock band of the same name, released on Poppy Records. Mandrake Memorial was an American psych-rock band from Philadelphia that released three albums between 1968 and 1970. Formed in 1967, they quickly became a fixture of the East Coast underground with a distinctive blend of baroque instrumentation, modal experimentation, and electronic processing.

PA: “Overall this album shows a band starting out with an ambitious goal of creating interesting and unique psychedelic pop music. The band’s next two albums will prove how willing they are to do the hard work to bring their music up to the “A level.” A very interesting collection of high-reaching songs from a still-developing band. Not a great album for sound engineering but interesting from a creative perspective.” (Wiki, Discogs, Prog Archives).
